You've bought parts from us, tuned with us, or possibly both. Or maybe neither! But we're probably a good source of help for a modified car trying to pass emissions.
The amount of questions we get about passing emissions required us to create a help article. We get it, you want to enjoy your car while navigating the inconvenient truths about following your local laws. You have an emissions test coming up that you've been dreading because you suspect it might not pass. Or maybe you already tested and failed and don't know what to do next.
Every order we fulfill and every ECU calibration we complete assumes the end user is modifying at their own risk, with regard to their local laws.
The truth is, we can't advise on what you need to do to pass emissions. As a general rule, you need all emissions related sensors to be active and correctly functioning on the car. You need original equipment, especially in terms of the exhaust system, in order to pass emissions without worry. It all comes down to your local laws and what they require you to do. With that said, you need to understand your local laws in order to pass your local emissions test, if you have one. We recommend using local mechanics to help diagnose what might be wrong with your car in relation to it's ability to pass emissions.
If you are tuning with us, there are common engine codes and conditions that we can help you understand during the tuning process. But again, we can't advise you on what to do about them unless it's a problem that can be solved easily and we have experience with and it doesn't suggest you break any laws. And we can't remove emissions related devices and codes to cheat the system.
As an online performance retailer, this is not a service we offer or a subject we are responsible for discussing. We cannot turn off engine codes. We cannot give you a different tune to pass emissions. It is ultimately the responsibility of the end user of the vehicle to determine what their needs are to get their vehicle to legally pass emissions.
Things you should consider when emissions problems come up.
- Contact a local mechanic that can diagnose the emissions failure points.
- Use Google as a resource to find more information about common engine codes, common reasons why they are active on your car, and common ways to fix them.
- Put the stock emissions related components back on the car and remove any tuning devices.
- Sacrifice your hobby and passion to fall in line with how the government wants you to live your life.
